I have LPC1768, IR transmitter and receiver LED. Need Help!

I have: LPC1768 microcontroller 1 IR receiver LED 1 IR transmitter LED I need to detect a black line on a white surface. I'll be giving HIGH on IR transmitter and as the coloured surface will reflect the IR signal I want IR receiver to show output. But I don't know how to interface IR with mbed microcontoller. Help me in coding and interfacing I'm an amateur at this. Note: I don't have IR module, but separate IR transmitter and receiver LEDs.
