using usbserial to win 8.1 the cdc port doesnt work -- ok on xp

Hi I an new MBED this and want to send data on a freescale frdm-kl25z board via usbserial to my window 8.1 pc. i have used the usbserial example . compliled and loaded it ok. if i plug the board ( via its proper USB port not the loader one ) into an xp machine it is detected and comes up as an mbed serial port and i can connect a teminal to it and i ge the expected text.

if i plug it into my win 8.1 machine it is detected but comes up as a CDC device with no driver. i have downloaded the serial .inf that is in the archive from the handbook page but it is not happy with it. it tries to install it but says it is unsigned the file itself is copywrite 2000 and has no mention of any operating system after vista. is there a newer one somewhere?

if i plug the loader port into the win8.1 machine it sees it as an "MBED Serial Port Comm(8) as expected. I di have to load a different bit of software mbedWinSerial_16466.exe to install it.

thanks for your help Kevin

Hi, I have found a way of using unsigned drivers in win8.1 so it now works ok. he question as to if there is a newr signed driver remains.

i will now play with usbserial , which iexpect will throw up a new pile of questions.

I am new to mbed and hav't used c for about 20 years so I might be a bit rusty.

Thanks for your time Kevin
