External Xtal in lpc824

Team 1) Do I need to make any changes in firmware to use an external crystal? 2) Also my cricuit is built fo external crystal but i dont solder anything it and am using the internal oscillator. will soldering an external crystal use the external one

You need to make some changes to the clock selection startup and PLL code to use an external xtal. Check the mbed source code.
